A new bill in the Kentucky House of Representatives would put education freedom on the ballot this November. House Bill 208 proposes a constitutional amendment that would open the door for parents to have greater educational choices for their children. Critics argue that school choice would hurt public schools. But proponents say that parents can better direct their child’s education and they should be supported. Many parents have been concerned by public schools that underperform academically and in some cases are pushing controversial curriculum, which isn’t the purpose of public schools. If the Amendments passes the state legislature, it would empower parents who couldn’t afford private schools to send their kids to a school that would better serve their needs, and better aligns with their values and beliefs. Kentucky voters will ultimately decide in the November election.
