International tension between the U.S. and China is making its way into the Commonwealth. House Bill 500 would prevent China from buying land in Kentucky. As if spying on our nation through Tik Tok and by a weather balloon isn’t enough, now China is trying to buy land and encroach on American sovereignty. But if Representative Heath (R-Mayfield) gets his way, that won’t happen. He says that his proposal (HB 500) “would protect our most vital industry by specifically prohibiting the leasing, purchase, or acquisition of land by individuals who are considered a governmental entity of the countries.” He goes on to say, “This is about protecting our national security in a very uncertain, unfriendly world.” Protecting national interest is a priority of government, and Rep. Heath is leading the way.
