A proposal in the Kentucky House of Representatives would allow mothers to claim child support for their unborn child. The bill’s sponsor, Rep. Amy Neighbors (R-Edmonton), said that her proposal would help new mothers and the many financial challenges they face all on their own without the help of a spouse. Interestingly, opponents of the bill have argued that it implies that the baby’s life begins at conception. Of course, they’re right. Just like Kentucky’s other strong pro-life laws, this bill assumes a fundamental scientific and moral truth: all human lives begin at conception, and they are all worthy of protection. Opposition by abortion radicals belies their priority to deny personhood to the unborn, even if it hurts new mothers, who desperately need help.
