A billboard campaign supporting abortion rights, came to a halt in Louisville last week after the ads were pulled. One of the billboards in question featured a somber woman with the text: “Abortion is a personal decision between you and God.” But would God really support such a decision? Orthodox Christianity teaches that God is the author of life. Psalm 139:13-14 says, “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” In Jeremiah 1:5, God tells the prophet, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you….” Abortion ends the life of a human being and its contrary to the very nature of God. After all, how could a life-giving, life-sustaining Creator approve the violent end of one vulnerable human being in order to make another person’s life simpler?
