U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer spoke at a large church in New York City on Easter Sunday and praised recently confirmed Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson. After listing several political accomplishments and racial advancements, Schumer said, “The stone has been rolled away from the tomb.” Politicians often sprinkle religious metaphors into their speeches, but it’s worth noting that the stone being rolled away was much bigger than the confirmation of a Supreme Court justice. When Jesus Christ walked out of the tomb, he defeated the power of sin and death. Christ’s resurrection is the most significant event in history. And despite any changes politicians purport to make, the most significant change comes through spiritual renewal found in the one who overcame the tomb.
