CPC’s Director of Church Outreach, Bob Scott, interviews our spotlighted pastor of the month, Dr. Hershael York, pastor of Buck Run Baptist Church in Frankfort, KY.

Bob: Tell us a little about you. What led you to become a pastor?

Hershael: I trusted Christ as a young child and felt the Lord calling me into ministry when I was only 10 years old. My father was a pastor and the man I most admired, so the Lord blessed me with a great role model and mentor.

Bob: Tell us about your church. What are some of the exciting things happening there?

Hershael: Though Buck Run is over 200 years old, we are bursting at the seams with young families and small children. We completely relocated into a new building in 2016, and even though we built an entire wing for our children’s ministry, we realize now that we didn’t build it large enough.

Bob: How do you see the church’s role in our current culture?

Hershael: We intend to stand firm on biblical truth. We want to be kind and loving rather than angry and reactionary, but we understand that God has called us to be a light in a very dark world, and that may mean that we are relegated to the fringes of our culture. We know that only the Gospel of Jesus Christ can deal with the brokenness of humanity, so we intend to major on the Gospel and do everything we can to reach one life at a time.

Bob: How has CPC benefited you and your congregation?

Hershael: I’m grateful for the way that CPC provides churches and individuals with thoughtful analysis of policies, laws, and cultural currents. No pastor or church can adequately research and comprehend so many simultaneous issues and challenges to a biblical worldview, so it’s comforting to have a trusted organization with a proven track record to help us respond to the events that might otherwise overwhelm us.
