A petition is circulating in Owensboro calling for officials to restrict drag shows. The Ghostlight lounge is located in the taxpayer-funded Riverpark Center and has been hosting drag shows since last January. These shows feature men dressed as women and demons, performing sexually explicit and grotesque acts. While children are technically not allowed in the bar, this hasn’t stopped kids from being present. Residents are alarmed at the prevalence of drag queens mingling with the public between events there. As a result, many parents are keeping their families from these places. Some say drag queens have a right to dress up and perform in this public space. There are many things protected under the First Amendment, but exposing children to transexual men engaged in sexually explicit shows isn’t one of them.
