Students of the University of Michigan Medical School walked out during a ceremony to protest the speaker Kristin Collier. This was because Collier held pro-life convictions, even though she didn’t speak on the life issue at the ceremony. She commented after SCOTUS overturned Roe v Wade: “[H]olding on to a view of feminism where one fights for the rights of all women and girls, especially those who are most vulnerable. I can’t not lament the violence directed at my prenatal sisters in the act of abortion, done in the name of autonomy.” When our best educated contribute to incivility because they differ with someone’s convictions, it shows that we have a lot of work to do.
