Today, we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. Memorial Day began just after the Civil War ended, and our nation began the healing process from the bloodiest war in history that left some 600,000 dead. We also remember the soldiers who died in all our wars. Scripture tells us that “no greater love hath a man than he lay his life down for a friend.” This refers to Christ, who gave up his life so that we might have life in him. In a similar way, American patriots who lay down their lives for their countrymen demonstrate incredible love. Their willingness to serve, their courage, and their sacrifice make it possible for us to sleep safely at night knowing that we are protected. And for those who made the ultimate sacrifice, we are truly grateful.
