A story in the Lexington Herald-Leader by reporter Alex Acquisto says that “Claims made in ‘Yes for Life’ ad around KY abortion vote are misleading. Here’s the reality.” Acquisto criticizes the Yes for Life television ad for “charged phraseology often peddled by conservatives.” The ad says the Amendment is needed to stop late-term abortions. Acquisto takes issue with how few late-term abortions are taking place in the commonwealth, not whether or not they are happening in the first place. She also says that “Constitutional Amendment No. 2, like the trigger law, is a product of a GOP-backed law.” However, the Trigger Law, otherwise known as the Human Life Protection Act, was supported by 19 Democrats. Acquisto’s reporting amounted to a hit piece against Amendment #2, not a balanced piece of journalism.
