The Kentucky Youth Law Project and Born Perfect have filed a complaint against a Mayfield-based licensed clinical social worker with the Kentucky Board of Social Work. The Mayfield counselor was accused of practicing “conversion therapy” on a minor. Conversion therapy is a pejorative term for those who don’t believe people can change their sexual orientation. In actuality, conversion therapy is simply a counselor or pastor seeks to help individuals voluntarily overcome unwanted same-sex attractions or gender dysphoria. A bill (BR 49) has already been filed in the Kentucky General Assembly to ban CT. This not only violates counselors’ First Amendment rights, but it also prevents many individuals from receiving the help they’re requesting.
