The Commonwealth of Kentucky has hit the jackpot to the tune of $300 million. After a lengthy legal battle, a company called Flutter Entertainment has agreed to pay the state for illegally operating an online gambling site called Poker Stars. The company didn’t pay taxes and was operating in violation of Kentucky law. The site is still up and running and does offer an opportunity for people to lose their money. Part of the lawsuit contended that Kentuckians lost hundreds of millions of dollars, which really isn’t news. It’s obvious that people lose money when they gamble. In fact, the House always wins in the end. Which makes you wonder, why do some see gambling as a good idea, including our state legislature, which will be pressed to expand sports gambling in January?
