Is abortion the solution to economic hardship? According to Stacey Abrams, the answer is yes. Abrams is a candidate running for governor in Georgia, and she recently said that “Having children is why you’re worried about your price for gas, it’s why you’re concerned about how much food costs. For women, this is not a reductive issue.” She’s getting a lot of backlash for her comments–comments that would be unthinkable for a political candidate just a generation ago. Children are a gift from our Creator. But when political candidates see them as an economic drag and reduce them to an economic proposition, it makes abortion a reasonable option instead of seeing their inherent value and dignity as image bearers and future members of society.
