January 6th will go down as a dark day in American history. The greatest symbol of self-government, the US Capitol, was ransacked by thugs who believed an insurrection could overturn a democratic election. After numerous lawsuits were thrown out by Trump-appointed judges and large-scale fraud claims were easily debunked, the President and some of his supporters still believed the election was stolen. President Trump told his supporters on Wednesday to march to the Capitol and “fight like hell,” and the President’s lawyer called for a “trial by combat.” And the mob unfortunately listened. It’s clear that words have consequences. Scripture reminds us that the tongue is like a fire“ and how a little spark from it can set a great forest ablaze. ” Such was the case with the president’s foolish words.
