Tomorrow we celebrate Independence Day. 244 years ago America’s founders declared Independence from England when 56 men came together in Philadelphia to sign their names to one of the greatest political documents ever written. The Declaration of Independence listed the abuses by King George as their explanation for separating from Britain. The founders staked their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor to create a new nation where rulers aren’t above the law. The American creed says that all men are created equal, that our rights come from God, and that legitimate government is by the consent of the governed. These ideals are worth celebrating.  So when you’re watching the fireworks also remember to give thanks to our Creator who’s blessed us with all manner of freedom in the first place.
