According to the US Customs and Border Patrol data 760,000 people have been apprehended for illegally entering the United States on the Southwest border. We’ve already surpassed last year’s total of illegal entries by nearly 250,000. The U.S clearly has an illegal immigration crisis on its southern border. Since that’s the case, the Trump administration is modifying immigration policy. Ken Cuccinelli, the acting director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced a new rule, that if immigrants are to be accepted here as citizens, they must not become a public charge. In other words, they must not rely on public assistance for help. Cuccinelli said “Give me your tired and your poor who can stand on their own two feet and who will not become a public charge.”
