Nashville faced an unimaginable tragedy when a transgender shooter came into Covenant Christian school and killed 6 people, 3 of whom were 9-year-old children. Many in the media are blaming the shooting on “anti-trans” legislation and have voiced their concerns about violence against the transgender community. Others, like Madonna, are holding fundraisers in Nashville to raise money for trans rights organizations. But is this where the focus should be? The families of these 6 victims are suffering terrible grief and pain. Romans 12:15 calls us to “weep with those who weep.” It would be good for everyone, regardless of political affinities, to give the families space to grieve and resist making political points from this tragedy.
