The federal government sent out $1.4 billion in stimulus checks to dead people. According to the Government Accountability Office, the government didn’t have a safeguard to make sure that the people they were sending the checks to were actually alive. Altogether, 1.1 million deceased Americans received stimulus checks. Here in the Commonwealth, some 52,000 people who applied for unemployment still haven’t received a check from the state government. About 7000 applied back in March and still haven’t heard from the state government. The pain the government has caused is real. Kentuckians have lined up at the Capitol, sometimes all day, demanding the government to take action. If Gov. Beshear minimized economic disruptions in the first place and taken a surgical approach to slow the pandemic, many fewer Kentuckians would be suffering right now.
