Faith Church in West Lafayette, Indiana has a biblical counseling ministry for their community. They’ve done so for 45 years and all for free to anyone who needs help. However, if the City Council has its way it will ban a certain type of counseling that they pejoratively called conversion therapy. Conversion therapy is defined as any practice that tries to change a person’s gender identity or sexual orientation. This is a big deal to Faith Church because their conviction is that the Bible gives moral guidelines to human sexuality—guidelines they follow when counseling those struggling with LGBT identity. If the ordinance passes, those found in violation of the ordinance face fines of up to $1,000 per day—a clear overstep of the state into the realm of church ministry.
