A recent report by WHAS news in Louisville has revealed that some foster children are sleeping in the office building of the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services. The children are those not selected by foster families, mostly teenagers, and those with mental disorders. Gov. Andy Beshear has said the situation is unacceptable. But State Sen. Julie Raque Adams (R-Louisville) responded that she has known about the problem for months and asked Beshear to address the situation in a letter in April. Government moves slowly, but caring for homeless children must be one of its top priorities. This story also reminds us of the crucial role of Christian churches and foster families in caring for the most vulnerable Kentucky children.
