A former University of Louisville professor is suing the university for wrongful termination. Dr. Allan Josephson was terminated by UofL in 2017 after participating in a panel discussion where he spoke out against the idea that minors with Gender Dysphoria should be allowed to pursue hormone therapy and gender transition. To be clear, Josephson was a distinguished certified psychiatrist and was fired because he held a viewpoint that his university colleagues didn’t like. Instead of engaging in dialogue and allowing competing views to co-exist, they terminated him. This is a critical case for free speech and academic freedom because if someone this qualified can be fired for giving the wrong viewpoint, what does that mean for academic freedom at our universities where some viewpoints are no longer allowed.
