The Department of Governmental Efficiency, or DOGE, has roots in Elon Musk’s love of free enterprise. In 2021 Musk moved SpaceX from California to Texas because it was easier to run a business there. California has recently lost several notable companies due to their burdensome regulations. Perhaps, if California had a DOGE, Musk would have stayed. Which raises larger questions about state management in general. Places like Texas are attracting businesses from across the country due to their DOGE-like initiatives. Other states like Iowa have slashed excess spending and increased efficiency by enacting programs like school-choice and by eliminating cabinet-level agencies. The evidence is clear, government overreach is repelling business and hurting the economy. In other words, every state needs a DOGE.
