The U.S. Supreme Court’s draft of an opinion involving abortion restrictions was leaked to the public. The intent was political and apparently to stir up pro-abortion opposition. Chief justice John Roberts called it a “breach of trust,” “betrayal of the confidence of the Court,” and said that the intention to “undermine the integrity of [the court’s] operations… will not succeed.” Sen. Mitch McConnell also condemned the action and said, “This was yet another escalation in the radical left’s ongoing campaign to bully and intimidate federal judges and substitute mob rule for the rule of law.” Strong words from a Senator known for even-keeled temperament. Chief Justice Roberts has directed an investigation into the source of the leak.
