Social media and the digital age have contributed much to the concept of the modern self. But we should ask if it’s a healthy concept? Social media makes us the center of the universe where we write the script, put out the most attractive image, and cast the best version of ourselves for the public to see. We also compare ourselves to other profiles, often unfairly. We get our value on the number of followers and how many likes we have on Twitter or Facebook. We appear connected, yet are disconnected from deep relationships. We appear happy, yet there’s a profound underlying sadness in our day. Which should make us take note and reevaluate what our relationship is to this medium that often ends up defining us.
