Reparations are back in the news, but this time it’s in a children’s show. The Disney plus series Proud Family: Louder and Prouder aired an episode where the main cast sang a song about America being built by slaves. The lyrics also referenced America being guilty of systemic racism and white supremacy, and because of that, it owes black people reparations. Now, much can be said against reparations, mainly that it punishes people for crimes they never committed and rewards people for injustices they never experienced. But we shouldn’t overlook the fact that the idea of reparations is being pushed in a children’s show. This is why parents need to be aware of what their children are watching because the ideology they’re exposed to now will shape how they think and vote in the future.
