The partisan divide was evident in the political campaign speeches at the 142nd annual Fancy Farm Picnic. But one thing that has united all Kentuckians this year is disaster relief. In the past year, tornadoes swept western Kentucky, and floods ravaged eastern Kentucky. In each of these disasters, Kentuckians of all stripes, Republicans and Democrats, have united to care for our fellow citizens. Mayfield Mayor Kathy O’Nan said of the disaster relief in Mayfield that there was “no mention of Democrat, Republican, Independent. It’s just, ‘We [have] got to work together to take care of these hurting people.’” This has also been a time for Christians to shine their light and show the love of Christ to our neighbors in need. Amidst political division, Kentuckians need to continue to live by our motto: “United we stand, divided we fall.”
