Uyghur Muslims in western China have been persecuted and placed in internment camps in China years. Think about that for a minute. The last time there were internment camps for religious populations was during WWII. Most Democratic and Republican politicians have been quick to condemn this atrocity. In fact, Congress passed a bipartisan bill that will impose economic sanctions on China if they sell Americans goods produced from slave labor by Uyghurs. Bill sponsor Rep. Jim McGovern said, “This is not a partisan issue. It is a human rights issue. It is a moral issue.” The bill now heads to the Senate, with Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) taking the lead. Congressional Democrats should be applauded for upholding the human rights of Uyghurs. Perhaps they’ll extend human rights protections to another vulnerable minority in this country, which is unborn humans.
