The evangelical campus ministry Cru (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ) has faced criticism for its approach to gender and sexuality. Cru’s training curriculum–called “Compassionate & Faithful”–accepts the term “gay Christian” and recommends practicing “pronoun hospitality” with transgender people. As a result, many staff members have left in protest over what they see as compromising biblical faithfulness and accommodation of sinful lifestyles. One survey estimates that 30% of Americans between the ages of 18-25 identify as LGBTQ, so this is a challenging subject for any campus ministry. But Christians churches and organizations will increasingly be forced to decide whether or not they will remain committed to God’s good design for male and female or cave to cultural demands. The bottom line is that truth is paramount and the culture needs people of courage to say so.
