The U.S. Sixth Circuit Court upheld a Tennessee law that bans abortions that target babies with Downs syndrome. Tennessee Governor Bill Lee (R) responded that “Every life is precious and every child has inherent human dignity. Protecting our most vulnerable Tennesseans is worth the fight. Kudos to Lee. The fight for human dignity begins with acknowledging that unborn life is intrinsically valuable and worthy of legal protection. Tennessee went a step further and specifically made legal protections for human life viewed as imperfect. This is eugenics. The problem is that people aren’t God. We are not the author of life, but simply stewards of it. The test of a good society is how it treats its most vulnerable, and least desirable. And this makes Tennessee a leader in the nation.
