The Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh recently put out a video promoting puberty blockers for teenagers. Dr. Priya Dhara, the doctor promoting them in the video, explains that puberty blockers, “are basically a medication that says ‘Hey, let’s just put a pause on puberty.’” This is what virtually all transgender affirming doctors say. But is it true? All available scientific data says, at best we don’t know the long-term effects of puberty blockers, and at worst, it could jeopardize children’s health and lead to infertility. The decision to use puberty blockers is a life-altering decision. It’s hard to find any justification for letting people who can’t even drive or buy cigarettes, make such a serious decision about their bodies.
