Chicago calls itself a sanctuary city. This means they're allowing illegal immigrants to live and work there without repercussions but now the federal government is clamping down. U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions is demanding all cities that have illegal aliens in jail to tell federal immigration officials and to give them 48 hours notice before releasing them. Its a reasonable request, but Chicago is refusing to do this. Now Sessions will withhold millions in law enforcement grants and Chicago is sueing. To be clear, the federal government is responsible for setting immigration law. And the people who are here should be here legally. Cities that refuse to comply with federal immigration law in effect become lawless themselves and in the end, they're making it less safe for all of us.
