At the height of Black Lives Matters protests, Amazon Prime promised to “Amplify Black Voices.” They should have said they’d only amplify certain black voices. Shelby Steele, a respected author, university professor, and screenwriter produced a documentary called What Killed Michael Brown? It was a conservative perspective on what happened in Ferguson, MO leading to riots. So Amazon rejected the documentary. But the nation’s largest book and video seller has rejected conservative content. In July 2019, Amazon began censoring books advocating spiritual practices for dealing with unwanted same-sex attraction. They also rejected books from ex-gay authors. And just a few months ago, they blocked ads for Abigail Shrier’s book, Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters.
