There’s been a big push to allow young children to determine their own gender these days. And if one California lawmaker has his way, he’d force stores that sell children’s items to remain gender-neutral. State Rep. Evan Low proposed a bill that requires retail stores in California to stock children’s clothes and toys in “gender-neutral” aisles. The thinking is that separating girl’s and boy’s items could be a social construct that leads them to identify with their born sex, so Low wants to force stores to combine boy’s and girl’s items in the same aisles. Any retailers who fail to make the change could face a $1,000 fine. Rep. Low pulled his bill on the last day of the session. But the threat to impose gender confusion on children is real.
