The Department of Health and Human Services has adopted a radical policy that elevates the sexual identity of minors. It says that state child welfare agencies will have to abide by gender ideology and agree to place children with LGBT-identifying families. This is a radical departure from our understanding of what is healthy and best for children. It also violates the mission and values of many child welfare organizations, including Sunrise Children’s Services here in Kentucky. Sunrise president Dale Suttles said the new policy could be “devastating,” kicking Christian families out of the foster care system. “We think it’s wrong. We think it’s bad government.” Our state has a shortage of foster care families and Biden’s policy will make things worse. The Kentucky Attorney General is reviewing the regulations to determine how to respond.
