Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY) recently introduced the Building Civic Bridges Act (BCPA) to enable communities to foster civility and break down the walls of hostility. It’s evident to all of us that our nation and commonwealth are terribly divided. An NBC News poll revealed 70% of Americans believe that our deep divisions will prevent us from addressing the major issues of the day. Rep. Andy Barr said, “Our nation was founded on civic engagement and rigorous debate to achieve the ultimate good.” The BCPA will help achieve this goal by supporting programs and research that aim at civic bridgebuilding and community reconciliation. This bill is much needed in our divided nation, as dialogue and civility are good for all of us.
