Influential pastor Alistair Begg sparked controversy by saying that Christians can sometimes attend same-sex weddings, even if they are morally opposed to them. Begg has stood by his advice, but many conservative Christians are pushing back. Some radio stations have stopped playing the popular pastors sermons and he was disinvited to a large pastor’s conference. Begg has been a faithful pastor who deserves respect. Even though he didn’t endorse same-sex marriage, his position casts serious confusion among the faithful. Attending a wedding isn’t just an act of compassion for those individuals. It’s a public affirmation of what is taking place. Christians understand that marriage is only between one man and one woman for life. Even as we love our neighbors, we must not be afraid to tell them the truth and act in light of it, and this means not attending a same-sex wedding ceremony.
