Today is the second day of Advent—the time of year when Christians around the world prepare to celebrate the coming of the Savior. Advent comes into greater focus in 2020 where coronavirus has taken the lives of over 1.4 million people worldwide (260,000 in the U.S.)—we look for medical deliverance. During a time of election turmoil, many look for a politician to save us. And at a time of social unrest and violence, we look for someone who can deliver peace. As much as we long for solutions to our problems—and indeed should work toward solutions, they will end up short. So we look to a Savior called Jesus who transforms our souls and can deliver healing—not just from Covid but from everything that’s broken in this world.
