Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that he's creating a Religious Liberty Task Force to ensure “that every American has a right to believe, worship, and exercise their faith in the public square.” Sessions told attendees at a Religious Liberty Summit in Washington D.C. that the government overstepped its bounds when it forced nuns to provide contraceptive coverage under Obamacare; when a cake baker was fined for refusing to bake a cake for a gay wedding; and when a judicial nominee was questioned about her religious beliefs. Sessions called the trend “A dangerous movement, undetected by many, is now challenging and eroding our great tradition of religious freedom. … It must be confronted and defeated.” Sessions seemed combative but considering the threat to religious liberty many citizens have felt by an overbearing government, perhaps he's on target.
