Yesterday was Flag Day—a day of reflection on what the American flag stands for. But have ever thought about what it means to be an American and why we celebrate things like Flag Day? Much of revisionist history says America is basically a racist and greedy nation. But America was built on the rule of law, freedom of speech, religion and the ability to pursue our God-given calling. America is a great nation that has allowed people to become the best versions of themselves. Of course, we have real flaws and dark chapters. But what nation has better founding ideals? And what nation has been such a force for good? Flying the Stars and Stripes is one way to honor our nation.
