President Trump recently announced a fund meant to compensate those who believe they have been politically persecuted. The so-called “anti-weaponization” fund is a settlement resolving a lawsuit against the IRS related to a leak of Trump’s tax returns. Those who believe they have been hurt by the weaponization of government may file a claim for payment until December 2028. The fund has angered many Republicans in the U.S. Senate, including Kentucky’s Mitch McConnell, who called it “utterly stupid” and “morally wrong.” But others like Dan Mclaughlin at National Review argue that Democrats have set a precedent for this sort of fund on a smaller scale. Regardless, it is getting pushback from the GOP—reflecting a growing conflict between the president and Congress.
