The 2026 primary election is in the books, and, to the surprise of the Secretary of State, voter turnout was five percentage points higher than projected. 25% of eligible voters turned out to vote in the midterms. Biggest news in Kentucky is that Congressman Thomas Massie lost his reelection bid in the most costly congressional primary in history. Andy Barr won the nomination to US Senate to replace Mitch McConnell. Three Kentucky house members lost their seats. Altogether, 18 Kentucky County Judge-executives, which are the highest local office holders, lost their races. Despite criticisms of inordinate spending, big money didn’t always win the day. In the end, it was the voters who’ve spoken. Now it’s onward to the general election in November.
