Emerging artificial-intelligence tools are now producing hyper-realistic pornographic content, including synthetic “pornbots”. These sexually charged pornbots are designed to exploit sexual desires all without requiring consent. Some call this progress in digital entertainment. But it is in fact a distortion of human intimacy and the degrading of human beings. It also adds fuel to the fire of internet porn which is already a crisis. Pornbots are another means to normalize detached gratification. They also erase the boundary between genuine relationship and artificial simulation. Pornbots promise to deliver gratification on demand, but in reality they replace human relationships with consumption. If we truly care about human flourishing, we must resist technologies that cheapen sexuality and leave us less human in the end.
