The Surgeon General has called for warning labels on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. He says they pose a danger to the mental health of kids. And many studies show this: “Adolescents who spend more than three hours a day on social media face double the risk of anxiety and depression symptoms. … Also, nearly half [of minors]…say that social media makes them feel worse about their bodies.” Social media isolates teens, creates opportunities for them to be bullied, and asks them to compare themselves to others. This is a recipe for a mental health crisis. Kudos to the nations top medical official recognizes the danger. Now policy makers should follow suit.
