A journalist at Spectator recently reported that her social media news feed is filled with random advertisements encouraging women to sell their eggs to egg banks for profit. In England, they are paid 750 pounds, which is about $924 for their eggs. Allan Pacey, a researcher on fertility at the University of Sheffield, believes there will be a rise in young women turning to egg donation to relieve their financial burdens. But he explains they might not consider the psychological trauma of children being born from their eggs. Detaching our DNA from the procreative act in marriage has consequences. Our DNA is not a commodity. And selling eggs or any part of ourselves to create another human being that we’ll be forever detached from will undoubtedly have negative consequences.
