Former Education Secretary Betsy DeVos recently spoke at a “Moms for Liberty” summit in Tampa, Florida, where she said that she believes the Department of Education shouldn’t exist. Which brings up the question, especially for parents: “Should the federal government be involved in the education of our children?” Recently, the Department of Education has threatened to cut federal funding to public schools for what it calls “sex discrimination.” This includes not allowing biological males who identify as females into the girls’ bathrooms or locker rooms, but also teachers not enforcing the preferred pronouns and names of their transgender students. Such practices make it easier to understand why DeVos thinks that the Departmentt of Education shouldn’t exist.
