The word fascism is thrown around a lot these days, but do you know what it is? At its core, fascism a political system that elevates the nation—or race—above the individual. It concentrates power in a dictatorial leader, and it coerces any opposition through force. Fascism is rooted in early-20th-century Europe, it rejected liberal democracy and individual rights. Fascist leaders rely on militarism, social regimentation, and a total identity built around “us vs. them.” It thrives on crisis and offers a promise of rebirth—but in the end it sacrifices freedom and truth. For Americans committed to liberty, recognizing the characteristics of fascism is essential so we can defend open institutions, uphold human dignity, and resist any government that seeks loyalty above conscience.
