A new survey released by the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University found that 60% of Americans do not believe that God exists or that he “affects lives,” which is another way of saying that God doesn’t exist. Interestingly, 47% of self identified Christians, and 40% of self identified born again Christians agreed with this. This is a troubling revelation. Embracing the belief of a powerful God who cares about people and gave His life up to free us from sin and guilt has changed countless lives. On the national scene, the idea of a God who is sovereign over all and at work in human affairs has animated the American project. Should this project continue with the blessings of liberty, we need an awakening of the reality of a God who’s at work.
