A meme depicting former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama as apes was taken down from Pres. Trump’s Truth Social website last week. Trump called the response to the meme “fake outrage.”: But Republican U.S. Senator Tim Scott – who is black – described it as “the most racist thing [he’s] seen out of this White House”.    — The response calling for an apology was quick. It was a disappointment to those across the political spectrum because such depictions of black people, are dehumanizing. Honest political debate is one thing. But degrading fellow citizens and resorting to pictures that evoke racist caricatures is out of bounds. Bottom line is that rejecting racism, no matter its source, strengthens political credibility and advances the common good.
