Last week the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear a challenge to Colorado’s ban on so-called “conversion therapy.” A counselor is fighting the ban and says it violates her First Amendment rights by “censoring” her conversations with clients. Back in September, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear issued a similar ban. But the Kentucky House recently responded by passing HB 495, which preserves the free speech rights of counselors. The fact that this issue made it to the U.S. Supreme Court also suggests that other states recognize violations of the First Amendment protections of freedom of speech and religion. It also tramples parents’ right to get help for their gender dysphoric children. The Court ruling is expected to be handed down later this year.
