School districts in at least 14 Kentucky counties are facing threats of violence in the wake of a shooting spree along I-75 in Laurel County. The threats are coming from online posts originating in other states. And sadly, threats are coming from students as young as fifth grade. The FBI said in a statement,  “Hoax threats are not a joke and can have devastating consequences. They disrupt schools, waste valuable resources, and endanger both first responders and the public.” Such threats are a tragedy and students and their safety are suffering. Our kids are losing important in-person instruction and the ability to attend sporting events. But they (and we) now seem to be losing a society where such threats were once rare.
